Messe Berlin: Joint marketing of congresses and guest events

• A new brand: Messe Berlin Guest Events

• Congresses, guest events and shows contribute decisively to the company’s success

Berlin, 6 February 2014 – In future, Messe Berlin GmbH will combine its congresses, guest events and shows, the company’s core business activities, under a single heading: Messe Berlin Guest Events. In order to manage the domestic and international markets even more efficiently a central sales and marketing division has been set up which will cover these three activities. According to Dr. Ralf G. Kleinhenz, vice president, Messe Berlin Guest Events, “This new structure will provide our experienced teams with even better conditions for generating more business, offering the best possible advice to our customers, harmonising services and attracting an optimum number of events to our venues. The title of Guest Events is apt, as every congress is also a guest event”. Kathleen Kolm (33) will head the new Sales & Marketing Division of MB Guest Events.

Messe Berlin's event business comprises its successful in-house events, which include numerous leading international trade fairs, as well as the congresses, guest exhibitions and other events soon to be marketed as one brand. These events all take place at Berlin ExpoCenter City, Berlin ExpoCenter Airport and in the CityCube Berlin.

Messe Berlin targets new record turnover in 2014

The Messe Berlin group of companies has begun the new year having just concluded its most successful odd-numbered financial year in the company's entire history. In 2013, with a turnover of 190 million euros (2011: 180 million) Messe Berlin was able to post a new record. In 2014 Messe Berlin expects turnover to reach around 250 million euros, equalling the record of 2012, a year with a similar number of events.

Congresses and guest events are certain to make a decisive contribution. Expectations will be high when the CityCube Berlin, a multi-purpose hall for trade fairs and congresses, opens soon. The venue will be able to host events with up to 11,000 participants and is due to open in May 2014 with the national conference of the Confederation of German Trade Unions (11 -16 May). At the same time the ICC Berlin will terminate operations in order to undergo extensive restoration work.

Further conference highlights await, with the CityCube hosting the World Congress of the International Trade Union Confederation (18 - 23 May). Numerous large-scale medical congresses will follow, including the Diabetes Congress 2014 (28 - 31 May), the Medicine and Health Congress in the Capital (25 - 27 June) and the annual conference of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP, 18 - 22 Oct.).
