Messe Berlin: Ambitious expectations met in 2009
Continued increase in market share of own events Trade fair programme remains stableBerlin, 5 January.2010 Messe Berlin is satisfied with its business progress in 2009. With a turnover of approx. 155 million euros Messe Berlin exceeded the figure for 2007, when a comparable range of events took place, by more than ten million euros. Following record results for 2008, the 2009 figures are very good, and furthermore we shall be achieving a balanced set of results, said the Chief Executive Officer of Messe Berlin, Raimund Hosch, commenting on the highest turnover ever for a year ending in an uneven number, when there are fewer events. Raimund Hosch: The results achieved by Messe Berlin in 2009 underline the important function of trade shows which effectively meet the needs of the market, especially when the economy is experiencing difficult times. For 2010 there are no signs of any downturn in Berlins trade fairs as a result of the crisis. The total of more than 24,000 exhibitors and around 1.6 million visitors to trade fairs at the Berlin Funkturm (Radio Tower) reconfirm Berlins appeal as a trade fair venue in 2009. Around the world the interest in trade fairs in Berlin remains extremely high: whereas an average of 50 per cent of exhibitors at international events taking place in Germany as a whole come from abroad, the figure for participation by foreign exhibitors at Messe Berlins own events in the city is 67.5 per cent. In 2009 Messe Berlin supervised 60 trade fairs and exhibitions, including 36 guest events. A total of 57 trade fairs were held on the exhibition grounds at the Berlin Funkturm, 23 of which were organised and staged by Messe Berlin itself. With two specialist fairs the Berlin company successfully continued its strategy of promoting its brand name in East Asia. Some 80 trade fairs will be taking place on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds in 2010, including six of the twelve German trade fairs with the biggest international reputation. The International Green Week Berlin in January will be followed in February by FRUIT LOGISTICA and FRESHCONEX, in March by ITB Berlin, and in June by the ILA. During the second half of the year IFA and a major world event for transport technology, InnoTrans, will be attracting exhibitors and visitors from every continent. Other highlights of the programme will be bautec, Solar Energy, Laser Optics Berlin, conhIT, IT Profits, LinuxTag and 5 elements.berlin, YOU and belektro, art forum berlin and BOOT Berlin. The ICC Berlin can look back on a successful year tooFor the Congress Division of Messe Berlin 2009 brought a high volume of business too.
