Messe Berlin: Guest Events business is expanding and becoming more international
• More than 260,000 visitors at 38 events
• Guest event organisers seek more lasting links with Messe Berlin
Berlin, 27 February 2013 – The total attendance exceeded 260,000 last year at Messe Berlin’s 38 guest events held at Berlin ExpoCenter City. The number of new events with a growing international appeal is also on the increase. For example, two of the events making their debut in 2012 were the European Attraction Show and ASIA APPAREL Expo – BERLIN. And this year, for the first time, the Berlin Exhibition Grounds will be the venue for World Publishing Expo, an exhibition staged annually by the association representing the world’s newspaper publishers (7-9 October). Following the great success of the first international biogas trade fair last year, the exhibition area of the BioGasWorld 2013 will be considerably increased in size (23-25 April).
Dr Detlef Meyer zu Heringdorf of Messe Berlin, who is responsible for the company’s Guest Events sector: “In addition to an expanding portfolio another trend is becoming very evident: a growing number of organisers of guest events are choosing to establish more lasting links with the trade show venue Berlin. This is not only an indication of the appeal of Germany’s capital city but also of the wide-ranging expertise offered by our staff, and the confidence that Messe Berlin engenders. Guest events business is growing and becoming increasingly international, both at Berlin ExpoCenter City as well as at our new exhibition venue, Berlin ExpoCenter Airport.”
The world’s largest coil winding trade show CWIEME is just one example of the more lasting links that are being forged with Berlin and its trade show facilities. This trade show for electromagnetic coils, electric motors, transformer manufacturing, rewinding equipment and electrical insulation will continue to be held at Berlin ExpoCenter City for the next five years. An agreement to this effect was recently signed by the organisers i2i Events Group, London, and Messe Berlin, thereby continuing a collaboration that has been growing successfully for the past 17 years. During this period the Coil Winding & Electrical Manufacturing Exhibition and Conference Berlin has undergone expansion by some 1,100 per cent.
Mark Shashoua, CEO, i2i Events Group: "i2i Events Group is delighted to announce its continued partnership with Messe Berlin. CWIEME Berlin welcomes hundreds of leading exhibitors from around the world every year and attracts a very focused and specialised audience, 60 per cent of whom come from outside Germany. Messe Berlin is the world´s number one in terms of international participation. It is the ideal venue for CWIEME and the perfect business platform for everyone attending the event.”
Only a few days ago another organiser chose to enter into a more long term working arrangement with Messe Berlin. Frank F. Peppel, Chief Executive of F.F. Peppel GmbH, an event and event marketing agency: “We have agreed to extend our well-established and excellent collaboration with Messe Berlin for a further five years. From 15 to 17 March an outstanding premiere will be taking place, when our leading events, AutoCampingCaravan and TransporterTage, will be held for the first time at the new venue, Berlin ExpoCenter Airport. This is something that we are really looking forward to.”
This facility has been available to provide new presentation opportunities for organisers of guest events too since last September. The site is directly adjacent to the future major airport BER and made a successful start with the staging of the International Aerospace Exhibition ILA 2012. Augmenting the ExpoCenter City site at the Exhibition Grounds at Berlin’s radio tower, the Funkturm, it comprises three permanent halls covering 21,000 square metres, with the ability to increase the display area to some 55,000 square metres by the inclusion of temporary halls. It hosted the highly successful fashion fair PANORAMA in January 2013.
